Yes. Two apps that do this by default are AniSoul and RealSoul. Both are ours, so read this as a description from the people who make them, not as a neutral comparison. Below is exactly what "offline" means for each of them, the one download you need first, the one mode that is not offline, and how to pick between them.

📴 What "Offline" Means Here
In their default mode, both apps run the AI on the phone itself rather than on a server:
- AniSoul. Her chats run on an AI model on your device, so they work with no internet connection and are not uploaded. Her memory of your conversations is kept on the device too.
- RealSoul. Her language model, her voice and her lip-sync all run on your device, and your conversations are not uploaded. There is also no account and no sign-up.
So once the model is on your phone, the conversation itself does not need a connection.
📥 The One Download You Need First
The model has to reach your phone before any of this works:
- AniSoul downloads her model on first launch: about 400 MB on devices with less than 7 GB of RAM, and about 1 GB on other devices.
- RealSoul downloads her model once: roughly 400 MB to 1 GB, depending on the device.
Use Wi-Fi for this download.
🔑 The One Exception: Own AI Key
Both apps offer an optional Own AI Key plan, which lets her think with your own OpenAI, Google Gemini or xAI Grok key. It costs US$9.99 a month, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
That mode is, by design, not offline: your messages go through our server to the AI provider you chose. If you never turn it on, nothing about it applies to you, and you can stay on the on-device default.
🎭 AniSoul or RealSoul?
Both are 3D characters you talk to out loud, and both answer in their own voice. The main difference is the look, and a few details:
AniSoul is an anime character. You can interrupt her at any time and she stops talking to listen. You can pick her facial expressions, actions and poses by name, and change her outfits, hairstyles, backdrops and voice. The free tier has a daily message allowance; the Premium subscription makes messages unlimited.
RealSoul is a lifelike human whose face and hands move as she speaks. She is free every day with 30 messages a day at the time of writing; the No Daily Limit subscription removes the limit for US$2.99 a week, US$9.99 a month or US$59.99 a year. RealSoul is made for adults, 18 and over. It is company and conversation, not therapy, and it does not give medical advice.

Does an offline AI companion need the internet at all?

Are my chats uploaded?
Not in the default mode of either app. Only the optional Own AI Key mode sends your messages out, through our server to the AI provider you chose.
Where does AniSoul keep her memory?

Do I need an account for RealSoul?
No. RealSoul has no account and no sign-up.
Are they free?
Both are free to use, with a daily message allowance. AniSoul Premium and RealSoul No Daily Limit remove the daily limit.
