Getting Started with RealSoul: Your First Day
A first-day guide to RealSoul on iPhone and iPad: the one model download, the screen, talking by voice, free daily messages, and what leaves your phone.

Getting Started with RealSoul: Your First Day 👋
RealSoul is a lifelike 3D human you talk to out loud. She listens, answers in her own voice, and her face and hands move with the words. Her language model, her voice and her lip-sync all run on the iPhone or iPad in your hand.
This guide covers the first day: what to check before you install, the one large download, what the icons on the screen do, how a voice conversation works, what is free, and what to do if something seems off. If you would rather talk with an anime character, AniSoul offers the same kind of conversation in an anime style.
🧭 What People Use It For
RealSoul is company and conversation. The App Store listing names what people actually do with it:
- Saying how the day went, out loud, at the end of it
- Thinking through a decision, and hearing yourself say it badly first
- Rehearsing a conversation you are not looking forward to
- Filling a quiet commute, a long drive or a late shift
- Saying goodnight to someone
It is just as useful to know what it is not:
| RealSoul is not | What that means |
|---|---|
| Therapy | It does not give medical or mental-health advice. |
| A source of facts | Her replies are generated, so she can be wrong. Do not treat what she says as fact. |
| A social app | There are no other people in the app: no profiles, no feed, no messages between users. |
| For everyone | It is made for adults, 18 and over. |
📋 Before You Install
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.0 or later. It is one app for both.
- English. The app is in English, so plan on talking with her in English.
- Wi-Fi. The App Store lists the app at about 880 MB, and her language model is a separate download on top of that (see the next section).
- Nothing to set up. There is no account, no sign-up, no email and nothing to log into. You install the app and start.
📥 Install, Then One Big Download
Her language model is not inside the app download. It is fetched once, at or just after install: roughly 400 MB to 1 GB, depending on your device. How it arrives depends on your version of iOS:
- On newer versions of iOS, the system fetches it in the background.
- Otherwise, RealSoul downloads it on first launch and shows you the progress.
Until the model is in place, she can speak but cannot yet hold a conversation. On a first launch that is expected, not a fault. Once the model is on the device, a whole conversation works with no internet connection at all, Airplane Mode included.
🗺️ Finding Your Way Around the Screen
Along the top, a row of icons opens the customisation panels:
| Icon | What it opens |
|---|---|
| Scissors | Hairstyles |
| T-shirt | Outfits |
| Map | The backdrop behind her |
| The other icons | More of her settings, such as her mood and persona. Each opens its own panel. |
Along the bottom:
- a Message box with a send arrow, for typing;
- the voice controls, next to the Message box;
- a counter of the free messages you have left today, shown like 29/30;
- a gear icon, which opens settings.
🗣️ Your First Conversation
There are no prompts to write and no commands to learn. Talk the way you normally talk: tell her how your day went, or ask her something.
To talk out loud, use the voice controls next to the Message box. The first time you do, iOS asks for two permissions:
- Microphone, so she can hear you.
- Speech Recognition, because RealSoul uses Apple's speech recogniser, which runs on the device.
If you decline, text chat still works.
She keeps listening while she speaks. There is no button to hold and no waiting for her to finish. Start talking and she stops to hear you, the way a person would. You can cut in, change your mind, or trail off and start again. She faces you while you talk and answers out loud, with her mouth, face and hands moving with the words.
Prefer to type? Text chat is there too: type into the Message box and tap the send arrow.
If she speaks but does not take up what you say, her language model has probably not arrived yet. See "If Something Seems Off" below.
🎨 Make Her Yours
- Character and outfit. Pick the character and the outfit you like. The wardrobe runs from casual everyday wear to dressed-up looks.
- Hair. Hairstyles and colours.
- Mood and persona. Set the scene and she stays in character with you.
- Backdrop. The map icon changes what is behind her.
The rest happens on its own: the way she talks with you shifts as the two of you keep talking.
A separate styling guide on this blog goes into the look in more detail.
💬 Free Every Day, or No Daily Limit
RealSoul is free to use every day, with a daily message allowance: 30 messages a day at the time of writing. The counter at the bottom of the screen shows what is left. The allowance is metered by our server when it can be reached, and by a counter stored on the device when it cannot.
RealSoul No Daily Limit removes the daily message limit:
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| 1 week | US$2.99 |
| 1 month | US$9.99 |
| 1 year | US$59.99 |
- Prices may differ by region. Your local price is shown before you confirm.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price. Your account is charged within 24 hours before the current period ends, unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Manage or cancel any time on the device, in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions.
- Restore Purchases is available in the app. There is no account, so the subscription belongs to your Apple Account; after reinstalling or moving to a new device, Restore Purchases brings it back.
- Refund requests go through Apple.
- RealSoul and AniSoul are separate purchases. A subscription to one does not cover the other.
The full terms are in Subscriptions and Payments.
🔒 What Leaves Your Phone
Your conversations are not uploaded. We never receive your messages or your microphone audio, and no third-party cloud AI or cloud speech service is involved.
What does reach our own servers is short:
- a device identifier provided by the operating system, used to meter your free messages for the day;
- a count of messages sent;
- your App Store receipt, when you subscribe.
None of it is sold, or used for advertising or cross-app tracking. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
One consequence is worth planning for. Your conversations live only on this device, and with no account there is no server copy to restore them from. If you delete the app or move to a new phone, plan on starting fresh with her. Your subscription is the exception: Restore Purchases brings it back.
🛠️ If Something Seems Off
She speaks but won't hold a conversation. Her language model is still arriving. Stay on Wi-Fi, and if RealSoul is showing download progress, keep the app open until it finishes.
Voice does not work, or you declined the permission. Open the iOS Settings app, go to Privacy & Security, and turn RealSoul on under both Microphone and Speech Recognition. Text chat works in the meantime.
The device gets warm, or the picture gets choppy in a long session. This is expected. RealSoul renders a 3D human continuously and runs a language model on the device, so it works the hardware harder than a chat app and uses more battery. Devices near the minimum requirement run at lower frame rates. Let the device cool, and close other heavy apps.
The counter has reached zero. You have used today's free messages. Carry on another day, or subscribe to RealSoul No Daily Limit. If you subscribed before reinstalling, or on another device, tap Restore Purchases.
